Chess tournaments around Kuala Lumpur 26

Most competitive chess in the Klang Valley is played at weekends in shopping malls. APEX Chess takes its numbered tour from Quill City to Pavilion Damansara Heights and Subang Parade, CMC Chess runs the Catur Bulan Kemerdekaan legs at Paradigm Mall and Pinnacle Sri Petaling, and the Kejohanan Cerdik Catur series moves between Bangi Gateway and the Kipmall centres; BFF Chess Club, listed with the clubs, sets up its boards in the food courts of Lotus’s stores. Some malls run series under their own name: AEON BIG Subang Jaya, Centro Mall in Klang, KIPMall Kota Warisan and DPulze in Cyberjaya.

The longer events gather in a handful of halls. KL Chess Academy in Desa Sri Hartamas hosts the three-day KL Classics, the WP Kuala Lumpur rapid circuit and the Sunday legs of the KL Chess Grand Prix; the Malaysian Chess Festival takes over KL Gateway Mall from late August into early September; the Grand Asian Chess Challenge is played at Universiti Malaya. Entry goes through the organiser, and each card shows the date of the newest edition that was found.
